What I can offer as a Mentor
I am Senior Lecturer and Teaching Specialist in physiology and lead an amazing team of academics as Course Coordinator of our Medical Science programs. I hold a PhD in in Clinical Pharmacology from Flinders University, and have a broad range of experience as an educator of undergraduate and postgraduate students for 15+ years while still being a student myself! I am currently enrolled in a Master of Education (Higher Education). I contribute to teaching in the College of Medicine & Public Health through the development, implementation, delivery and evaluation of innovative curricula across the Bachelor of Medical Science topics. One of my passions in teaching is active learning, particularly using innovative techniques. I have introduced cloud-based learning into my institutions medical science physiology topics which I am very excited about! An understanding of human physiology is central to many professions and is therefore core to a lot of courses. The challenge and opportunity for me has been how to embed meaningful active learning opportunities across our physiology topics that have very large enrolment numbers. This work has led me to working with colleagues in developing strategies for implementation of active learning across different disciplines. I can offer mentees a sounding board for their ideas, and my curiosity about their teaching and learning practice, particularly around innovative approaches and how they use evidence to support their case.
