What I can offer as a Mentor

I am a Teaching Specialist in Human Physiology and lead an amazing team of academics as Teaching Program Director of Medical Biosciences programs. I hold a PhD in in Clinical Pharmacology from Flinders University and have a broad range of experience as an educator of undergraduate and postgraduate students which I have achieved from over 20 years of contributions to teaching in Higher Education. In addition to my PhD in Medicine, I am also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy UK and hold a Master of Education (Higher Education). I contribute to teaching in the College of Medicine & Public Health through the development, implementation, delivery and evaluation of innovative curricula across Medical Bioscience courses. One of my passions in teaching is active learning, particularly using innovative methods. I have introduced advanced learning technology to my institutions' physiology curricula, which I am very excited about, and as a result have demonstrated significant impact on my students' learning experience and academic results. An understanding of human physiology is central to many professions and is therefore core to a lot of courses. The challenge and opportunity for me has been how to embed meaningful active learning opportunities across physiology with diverse and large student cohorts. My work in this space has led to national and international collaborations with colleagues on physiology education and also active learning across different disciplines. I can offer mentees a sounding board for their ideas, and my curiosity about their teaching and learning practice, particularly around innovative approaches and how they use evidence to support their case. Recently, one of my mentees was successfully awarded an AAUT citation.
