We are pleased to announce that Universities Australia has confirmed the AAUT program for 2024. Please note the timeline below. More information about key submission dates and briefing sessions will be sent out via email and newsletters in the coming months.

  • 2023 award recipients announced: 26 February 2024
  • 2024 Nomination Packs released: 6 May 2024
  • Nominee registration & submission: August 2024
  • Assessment: September to December 2024
  • Career Achievement Award nominations: October to November 2024


Spotlight on Career Achievement: Alfred Deakin Prof David Boud

In anticipation of the upcoming 2023 Career Achievement Award call for nominations, we turn our focus to the distinguished recipient of last year’s honour, Alfred Deakin Professor David Boud.

Professor Boud is a trailblazing figure in global higher education known for his pioneering research and practical contributions to assessment reform. A prominent educational researcher with expertise in higher and professional education, workplace learning and assessment, he was the world’s most-cited author in Higher Education from 2019 to 2021. His work focuses on enhancing individual responsibility for learning in educational and work settings, spanning topics like student autonomy and work-based learning.

As a respected higher education leader, Professor Boud’s work has been adopted in 85 educational institutions across 19 countries, including 32 Australian universities. He has played key roles in 13 national collaborative projects, driving changes in teaching and institutional policies. In 2014, he established the Centre for Research in Assessment and Digital Learning at Deakin University, which has become a leading national centre for higher education research. He is a prolific collaborator and mentor, linking learning and teaching leaders everywhere through research and co-publication.

2023 Career Achievement Award

This year the AAUT will continue to recognise individuals who have devoted their life to making outstanding contributions to learning and teaching, with their achievements having a major influence and leaving an enduring legacy on the higher education sector.  This will be recognised and celebrated through the Career Achievement Award. 

Nomination period: 30 Oct – 17 Nov via your institution’s Vice-Chancellor.
